The warehouse production employee reports to the Shredder/JP Manager or the Terminal Operations Manager. The warehouse production employee is responsible for the operations associated with picking, maintenance, quality control and equipment operations while ensuring that all of his/her efforts are compliant with the company Health, Safety, and Environmental standards. Duties may include picking, preventative maintenance, forklift and skid steer operation, plant operation, minor plant repair and maintenance to include replacing bearing, repairing belts, and other maintenance tasks. The warehouse production employee should possess basic general mechanical knowledge, production processes, and quality control knowledge.

This position operates under flexible parameters. The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of the position. Providing the highest quality product safely, effectively and efficiently decreases accidents and errors and increase profits.

Warehouse production employees are primarily responsible for the removal of non-metallic material, metal, and debris at our metal shredder or joint products picking belts. This also includes maintaining parts of the shredder and/or joint products machinery. The job also includes general clean up and yard maintenance and is exposed to all weather conditions. We operate heavy equipment throughout the yard and all personal safety equipment is provided by the company.

Essential Functions

  • Environmental and Health & Safety (H&S)
    • Strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
    • Provides a safe environment for all employees, customers and visitors

  • Operational Performance & Best Business Practices
    • Removal of non-metallic material, metal, and debris at our metal shredder or joint products picking belts.
    • Maintaining parts of the shredder and/or joint products machinery to include bearing replacement and belt repair.
    • Performing preventative maintenance tasks on the shredder and/or joint products machinery.
    • Operate a forklift and/or skid steer to maneuver parts and material around the yard.
    • General yard clean up and yard maintenance
  • Equipment & Maintenance
    • Report all equipment deficiencies or malfunctions for maintenance or repair to the proper supervisor.

 

Internal Control Responsibilities

The Warehouseman supports the Company's Internal Control process which includes understanding, communicating, and complying with defined internal controls as well as suggesting and making modifications to the policies, procedures, and controls to better relate to the business.

Interpersonal Contacts

There will be direct contact with the Maintenance and Department Manager and operations production employees, which includes face-to-face, telephone, and email communication required daily.

Job Conditions

This position is regularly exposed to all weather conditions. Physical hazards such as noise, fumes, and dirt are present due to the equipment, machinery, and scrap as would be found throughout the scrap yard. Safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, face shields, and additional personal protective equipment as needed, must be worn to eliminate the risks associated with these hazards. Travel is not required for this position.

This position will be handling multiple issues regarding safety and maintenance, which increases pressure. The work load may be unpredictable and pressure can be substantial during peak times. Critical deadlines require considerable adaptability. Disturbances of work flow and/or irregularities in work schedule are expected and occur on an intermittent basis.  Extra hours may be required, sometimes on weekends, weekdays, and holidays.

 

Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions

This is a physical job, so applicants must be able to frequently walk on uneven ground, handle and grasp materials, crouch, bend, reach, climb, twist, push, pull and lift/carry up to 50 pounds occasionally. Visual acuity is needed for close detail work. To ensure safety everyone's safety at work, applicants must be able to hear and communicate by speech.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma, GED Certification, or experience in a similar role preferred.
  • Forklift experience preferred.
