Job Description

The Business System Fraud Analyst reports to the Operations Data Manger. The Business System Fraud Analyst serves as an expert in the metals recycling business related to security and fraud prevention. The Business System Fraud Analyst must possess knowledge of analysis, business support, process creations/controls and reporting both formal and informal.

This position operates under flexible parameters. The primary goal of this position is to support the AMR Division in fraud prevention through timely review of data to detect fraud and other improprieties. The position will also support the Director of AMR Security in analyzing data related to internal investigations and, on occasion, providing input into those investigations.

Essential Functions

    • Environmental and Health & Safety (H&S)
      • Strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
      • Provides a safe environment for all employees, customers and visitors.

    • Operational Performance & Best Business Practices
      • Analyze system data to track and provide an “early warning system” related to fraud potential and risk
      • Become completely conversant with all technical/operational aspects of the systems used in AMR operations in order to analyze data effectively
      • Learn the operations, commercial and logistics of the business to be able to optimize analytics for better fraud detection and risk mitigating controls
      • Understand and identify more efficient work processes, working closely with the Enterprise Operations and Security team to resolve
      • Act as single point of contact for all fraud and asset protection-related reporting needs
      • Primary point of contact for management of all AMR internal controls and recommendations
      • Management of the internal controls sign off database ensuring all facilities are covered and signing off monthly
      • Traveling to facilities to monitor proper adherence to AMR fraud controls
      • Partner with the Schnitzer training team in developing and implementing a security training strategic plan for a national roll-out
      • Develop custom and ad-hoc reporting out of the operations systems utilizing Excel and Oracle Business Intelligence

Supports the Company’s Internal Control process which includes understanding, communicating, and complying with defined internal controls as well as suggesting and making modifications to the policies, procedures, and controls to better relate to the business.  Communicates upward problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, or other policy violations or illegal actions.

Interpersonal Contacts


Direct contact with Operations Data Manger, Director of Enterprise Operations, Enterprise Operations Manager, and support employees. Communicates via face-to-face, telephone, and electronic interaction.

Job Conditions


This position is regularly exposed to all weather conditions. Physical hazards such as noise, fumes, and dirt are present due to the equipment, machinery, and scrap as would be found throughout the scrap yard Safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, face shields, and additional personal protective equipment as needed, must be worn to eliminate the risks associated with these hazards. Travel Required: 40%, depending on the projects at hand. Travel can range from the NE, to the West Coast including Canada. A passport is required.

Handling multiple issues regarding safety and maintenance increases pressure. Work load may be unpredictable and pressure can be substantial during peak times. Critical deadlines require considerable adaptability. Disturbances of work flow and/or irregularities in work schedule are expected and occur on an intermittent basis. Extra hours may be required, sometimes on weekends, weekdays, and holidays.


Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions

Ability to: lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally; crouch or bend at the knees occasionally to increase visibility; stoop or bend at the waist occasionally to increase visibility; reach at arm’s length frequently or overhead occasionally; twist and turn at the neck and trunk; walk occasionally on uneven ground; handle and grasp objects continually; communicate by speech and hearing continually. Visual acuity needed for close detail work. Mental dexterity needed as Security Business Analyst will work independently while demonstrating attention to detail and continuous awareness.



  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering (preferred) or experience within a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills, including written oral and the ability to speak with various levels in the organization
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex and technical concepts to personnel with little experience with analytics and limited technical knowledge
  • Highly motivated and a self-starter.
  • Able to learn through training, experimentation in test environments and shadowing personnel.
  • Effective organizational skills, analytical skills and research skills in resolving, at times, complex problems
  • Knowledge of Oracle Business Intelligence and database ad-hoc rpeorting preferred
  • Creative ability in reviewing operational risk and developing a reporting solution to mitigate/track
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel required
