Job Description

Cascade Steel and Scrap (CSS) is a division of Schnitzer Steel Industries, Inc. The CSS Accounting Supervisor reports to the CSS Accounting Manager. The Supervisor coordinates, supervises and reviews CSS-Steel accounting, ensuring accuracy for the CSS-Steel general ledger. The Supervisor partners with CSS-Steel Operations and Corporate Accounting teams to ensure consolidated monthly reporting is accurate and all month-end and quarter-end tasks are completed timely. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the accurate review of journal entries; account analysis; flux analysis; cash flow statement preparation; supervision of a Senior Accountant; daily invoicing oversight; ensuring that SOX and operational controls are functioning; and other duties which require strong understanding of financial statements. The Supervisor is involved in the month end closing, general ledger account reconciliations, internal/external audit support, tasks associated with managing the close cycle and continuous improvement of the accounting environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPA is preferred.
  • 4+ years of accounting experience including responsibility for company general ledger, cost accounting and financial statements preferred. Understanding of U.S. GAAP.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel software, ERP systems (preferably ORACLE) and 10-key competency.
  • Proven organizational skills, analytical skills and research skills.
  • Prior experience in review analysis.
  • Ability to manage, build relationships and has excellent communication skills.
  • Willingness to challenge conventional thinking for the betterment of the company.
